ABOUT JAY

Jay Colwell has enjoyed a novel career full of creativity and variety, driven through his love of the human voice. He holds degrees in Vocal Performance and internationally recognized certifications in keen therapeutic somatic modalities, and has mentored under nationally-renowned medical airway and breath professionals. 

 

In his private coaching practice, Jay works directly with award-winning vocal artists, and maintains a private coaching roster of singers from the world's leading opera houses including The Metropolitan Opera, LA Opera, La Scala, Bayerische Opera, The Royal Opera House, San Francisco Opera, among others.

 

His approach to voice and movement is science-informed and is continually reinforced through up-to-date research and study.

STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO EXPLORE THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE VOICE AND SURROUNDING ANATOMICAL STRUCTURES. THE EDUCATION PUTS INTO LAYMAN'S TERMS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE VOICE, THE BODY, AND BREATH.

BREATH INTAKE

EXPLORING THE CURRENT QUALITY OF ONE'S BREATH IS KEY TO WARMING UP THE BODY AND VOICE. THROUGH VISUALIZATIONS AND KEEN AWARENESS, STUDENTS DEEPEN THEIR MIND-BODY RELATIONSHIP THROUGH BREATH.

ZONES OF PRESSURE

HEALTHY PHONATION OCCURS THROUGH PROPER MANAGEMENT OF BREATH PRESSURE IN RELATIONSHIP TO KEY ANATOMICAL REGIONS. STUDENTS WILL EXPLORE BREATH PRACTICES THROUGH EACH ZONE OF RESPIRATION. 

PHONATION & MOVEMENT
